Wrong address on credit reports. What you can do to fix the wrong address on your credit report.
You might think that jotting down the wrong addresses on credit reports are things that happen seldom. But you are wrong. Studies have shown that making errors regarding your personal information - writing the wrong address on a credit report, for example - happens a lot more than you could ever imagine.
One study conducted by the Public Interest Group found that nearly four out of ten people who filed credit reports were likely to report incorrect personal demographic identifying information, including credit reports with wrong addresses.
Now it may just seem like a small clerical error, but wrong addresses on credit reports may actually be a nuisance for you when it comes to getting credit.
It's not that this information is vital to your application. It's just that companies and employers who apply to check the credit reports of their applicants, only to find that they have stated the wrong addresses on their credit reports, may start questioning the credibility of the applicant in question. If they are lying about where they live, they might ask, what else are they lying about?
Of course, there are ways to dispute any incorrect personal information - whether its names and aliases, wrong addresses or social security numbers - contained in your credit report. But in order to do this, you need to carefully check your own credit report - something a lot of people don't really realize they should be doing. There's no reason why a wrong address on your credit report should be a hassle. Removing the address is simple. Mark the address and write "Not My Address" in the dispute letter, or use the forms on the CRA's websites.
