Tenant Credit Reports
How many damaged walls or pieces of destroyed property could tenant credit reports have spared a hardworking landlord? How many unpaid months of rent or gas and electric bills would never have been defaulted on if only Landlords had taken the time to order tenant credit reports. Who cares you might say, what will a tenant credit reports have to do with me?
Tenant credit reports have everything to do with you. Your credit is a reflection on whether or not you are a responsible person. If you are responsible, it is less likely you will leave services unpaid, default on a lease agreement or leave damaged property. Most landlords will access a tenant credit report before signing a legal rental agreement. If your credit report has a history of late payments or collection accounts, don't be surprised if you are asked for a security deposit. This deposit is held in the case that you default on your rental/ lease agreement, leave damaged property, or don't pay the last months rent.
A tenant credit report will list any damages filed from previous landlords to help the potential landlord make an informed decision on whether or not to rent to you. Unless it is stated in your rental or lease agreement, many landlords may hold you responsible for repairs that are required after you move out.
Your tenant credit report is one that you will want to keep free from these types of blemishes. Be respectful of the property you live in, and you will be free to be a tenant anywhere.
