Reading Credit Reports with your Future in Mind
Reading Credit Reports
How are you reading credit reports? Are you reading credit reports with regret and sorrow, hoping to get through your very own with a minimum of guilt? Well before you stop reading credit reports and stuff them back into that drawer, you know the one you put all those bills and "Sorry, do not qualify for a Loan at this time" notices, maybe there is hope for your credit rating. After all you must be reading credit reports for a reason. You must want something, maybe a boat, a car, a new house or an exciting and lucrative business opportunity. Why else would you be reading your credit report?
Credit reports have very specific codes that are used to identify different occurances on your credit history. These codes and references help to identify credit patterns for potential lenders, and give them an idea of your credit worthiness. These references will also help to establish whether or not to lend to you, what type of interest rate you will have to pay, if you need to put down a down payment and length of financing terms. Every credit reporting agency has its own set of codes, but any account that is past due, in collections, or in arrears will damage a good credit standing and should be avoided, if at all possible.
Reading your credit report is the first step you can take to repair or build it . It is time to take a serious look at your credit report. An honest appraisal might bring shame and regret, but it also brings truth, and once you posses the truth you have a chance to begin again, to start over and put the past behind you. Imagine a time in the future where you are reading credit reports and your thinking about purchasing and borrowing options. Or imagine a future where you can decide what the best financial course of action is, rather than letting it be decided for you because you are in position to bargain. So I ask you, how are you reading credit reports? Do you see opportunity, or do you see failure, shame and regret? It is time to build your credit history now!
