Getting copies of credit reports might seem obvious, especially in matters financial, we have been told all our lives to get copies, but what are the other reasons for copies of credit reports? Let us just propose that you are out of town at a business meeting. One night you dine out at fine restaurant and end up losing your wallet in a cab on the way home. Now the chances that your wallet, joyriding as it were, through the strange streets of a city not your own will survive the night and return to your person unmolested are, let us say, slim to none. Your credit cards and all kinds of personal financial information are gone. Quickly you leap to a phone and do what? You don't even have the number to the various banks you maintain credit with; remember it is usually printed on the back of the card. But thankfully, back in your hotel room, in a secure place are your copies of credit reports you have carried with you. On those now valuable slips of paper are untold reams of information and damage control phone numbers that can put an immediate stop to any shenanigans your wallet might be perpetrating across town. What if your house burned down? Good thing you have copies of credit reports locked in a safe deposit box, or at your desk at work, or even hidden in your motor vehicle.
Luckily with the dawn of the internet, there is no need to carry copies of your credit report on your person. The internet is one of the quickest ways to access a copy of your credit report. With your computer you can manage your credit report from the privacy of your own home, and not have to wait weeks to have a copy mailed to you. The United States has just began offering a free copy of your credit report from all three major reporting agencies, and all states will have a legal right to view ONE Free copy of these by September 2005.
As you can see maintaining copies of credit reports can save you needless time and heartache, especially in a situation you might not have the time, energy or ability to go fumbling through the records of the past twenty years looking for vitally important information. No, for my money, a safe and easy way to keep important information at hand is to always carry copies of credit reports. You never can tell when you are going to need them.
